I had a wonderful time at Clovelly, a cozy cafe in Serangoon that offers delicious handmade pasta and other western delights. This cafe is relatively new, just opened few months ago. Previously it was a cafe called Wimbly Lu which I have visited once in the past.
First, we ordered the burnt brussel sprouts as an appetizer. They were crispy and smoky, with a hint of sweetness from the honey. I loved the contrast of textures and flavors, but my friend found them too bitter. I guess it's an acquired taste. I would rate them 7/10 and recommend them to anyone who likes brussel sprouts.
Next, we had two pasta dishes: the crab on crab and the spicy garlic prawn pink sauce. The crab on crab was amazing! It had a softshell crab on top of a bed of linguine, tossed with butter cream sauce and chunks of crabmeat. It was creamy, rich and satisfying, with plenty of crab in every bite. I would give it 10/10 and definitely order it again. The spicy garlic prawn pink sauce was decent, but not very impressive. It had some prawns, garlic, chili flakes and tomato cream sauce, but it lacked flavor and spice. It was too bland for my liking. I would rate it 5/10 and probably skip it next time.
Finally, we had the banana orange foster for dessert. It was a warm banana cake with caramel sauce, whipped cream and mandarin slices. It was not too sweet, and the citrus added a refreshing touch. The banana cake was moist and fluffy, and the caramel sauce was gooey and buttery. It was a perfect way to end our meal. I would give it 9/10 and highly recommend it to anyone who loves banana desserts.
Overall the food was pretty good and I would visit again if I happen to be in the Serangoon area. It's about 10 mins walk away from Serangoon MRT, along Jalan Riang.
